After some weeks off… Here I am, back to share my ideas and resources for EFL in Primary level.
In this blog post, I am going to share the lesson plan I used last scholar year to help my 2nd Primary pupils count from 1 to 20. It is very common to see children confused when counting from 10 to 20. Therefore, first I focused on making sure they felt confident counting from 1 to 10 and then we moved to the next level.
In the first lesson we played with these wonderful 1 to 10 flashcards & wordcards. I had them in my magic bag and the children took turns to discover them. Once we had them all out, we matched each flashcard with its wordcard. They loved these cards!!! Click on the image to download them:
Since most of them already knew how to count from 1 to ten with no problem, we focused on the writing of the numbers.
To finish the lesson, we watched this Peg + Cat Episode where they focus on counting from 1 to ten. I love Peg + Cat, they are adorable 🙂
The second lesson was started with rhythm! We learned this song and had fun singing and dancing. In small groups they created a choreography for the chorus.
After all the physical exercise, we sat down and worked on this worksheet to see if they are acquiring the numbers spelling. Click on the image to download it:
In the third lesson we started with the teen numbers. This time, the 10 to 20 flashcards & wordcards came from a magic box. We followed the same pattern as in the first lesson.
When we had matched all the cards, we watched another Pec+Cat Episode related to counting:
The fourth lesson also started with music. This fantastic song became very popular and had to play it many times! Listen to it and you will guess why… Who doesn’t like popping bubbles? 🙂
We performed the song pretending to to be bubbles. Each child was given a number and when the song said it, they jumped and popped. It was a laugh!
Afterwards, we played some onlines games to practice the teen number a bit more:
Finally, to reinforce everything seen the previous days, there is this fun worksheet where they have to focuse on the spelling. Click on the image to download it:
As you can see, I love using music and videos a lot. Children are very visual and it is the best way to call their attention and keep them interested!
